NVIDIA Optimus

Today, we talk about a new technology called NVIDIA Optimus. Efficiency and optimal use of power are key aspects of any laptop. “Optimus”, like its namesake-transformer, is a system which runs cool, using the Intel i5 HD  graphics chipset while operating under standard conditions, like Office applications or net-surfing. But, unlike simple lappys, when a graphical application calls for more juice, the NVIDIA discrete graphics chipset is switched on. Although this consumes more power, it proves to be a perfect compromise between long-battery life and extreme performance laptops. Kinds of make me wonder, why did nobody think this one up earlier?

Windows 7 phone

Windows Phone 7 promises to wipeout all older Windows Mobile smart phones, due to no backward compatibility for apps. Also, it promises to destroy any evidence of its poor performance, by means of an extremely high system requirement.

A taster is here, although still not officially confirmed.

  • 1 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • NVIDIA Tegra GPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 16 GB phone memory
  • WVGA/ HVGA res-display.

So, this is an indicator enough of the Zune touch to WM. It is rumored that it will probably not multi-task. Hope that's not the case.

The boffins at Samsung are known to throw conventional outta the window. This is a concept WP7 phone.

An interesting tidbit is Microsoft used the Samsung Omnia HD as a guinea pig to peddle to the media. Keep in mind the S605th Omnia HD uses an ARM Cortex 600Mhz processor which also does duty in the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre.
